Piret Jaaks (1980) is an internationally recognised Estonian prose, drama and children's author.

Her debut novel, Daughters of Heaven (2023), won third place in the Estonian Novel Competition, sparked wide public discussion and became a bestseller. The novel tells the story of brave women missionaries who save children during the First World War, a story that resonates strongly with the world we live in today.

Her children's book Mommy's Dragon (2019) has received international recognition, including selection for the prestigious White Ravens catalogue in Germany and the Golden Pear Award in Slovenia (2020). Mommy's Dragon has been published in Estonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain and South America.

Piret is also an accomplished playwright and a two-time winner of the Estonian Playwriting Competition. Her plays have been performed in several European countries, including Germany, Finland and Slovenia.

Piret is a strong advocate for women's rights and believes in the power of stories to give voice to those who are too often unheard. She is also a devoted dog lover — and, like many of her characters, has a soft spot for the brave, the vulnerable and the wonderfully unruly.
